The girls’ name page actually started way back with the Greek word “paidion”, meaning little boy. It was adapted into English – page – in the Middle Ages as the name of an occupation. A page was a servant to a knight. At the age of twenty-one, a page could become a knight himself. Eventually, the occupational name became used as a surname, and then feminized with an “e” to be used as a girls’ first name.

Paige came to popularity as a girls’ name in the United States for the first time in 1952, but it didn’t really come to moderate popularity for another ten years.
